Free Leprechaun Hat Crochet Pattern



Enjoy this free pattern to crochet a Leprechaun Hat to use for St. Patrick's Day decorating. We used it to dress-up a life-size crocheted PUG dog. The hat measures about 4-1/2 inches tall when made with 4-ply yarn.

Materials
Green 4-ply yarn 1 ounce
Black 4-ply yarn several yards
Gold or yellow 4-ply yarn 2 yards
Crochet hook Size G
Yarn needle

Finished size: 4-1/2” by 4”

Hat
With green yarn

Rnd 1: ch 2,
6 sc in 2nd ch from hook,
join with a sl st in first sc. (6 sc)

Rnd 2: ch 1,
2 sc in each sc around,
join with a sl st in first sc. (12 sc)

Rnd 3: ch 1,
(Sc in next sc,
2 sc in next sc) 6 times,
join with a sl st in first sc. (18 sc)

Rnd 4: ch 1,
(Sc in next 2 sc,
2 sc in next sc) 6 times,
join with a sl st in first sc. (24 sc)

Rnd 5: ch 1,
(Sc in next 3 sc,
2 sc in next sc) 6 times,
join with a sl st in first sc. (30 sc)

Rnd 6: ch 3 (counts as first dc),
Work in back loops only
Dc in each sc around,
Join with a sl st in top of ch 3. (30 dc)

Rnd 7-9: ch 3 (counts as first dc),
Working in both loops
Dc in each dc around,
Join with a sl st in top of ch 3. (30 dc)

Rnd 10: ch 3 (counts as first dc)
Dc in next 2 dc,
Dc next 2 dc together,
(dc in next 3 dc,
dc next 2 dc together) 5 times,
join with a sl st in top of ch 3. (24 dc)

Rnd 11-12: ch 3 (counts as first dc),
Working in both loops
Dc in each dc around,
Join with a sl st in top of ch 3. (24 dc)

Rnd 13: ch 3 (counts as first dc),
Working in front loops only
2 dc in each dc around,
Join with a sl st in top of ch 3. (48 dc)

Rnd 14: ch 3 (counts as first dc),
Working in both loops
Dc in each dc around,
Join with a sl st in top of ch 3. (48 dc)
Fasten off.

Buckle
With gold or yellow yarn

Row 1: Ch 6,
Sc in second ch from hook and in next 4 chs. (5 sc)

Row 2: ch 4 (counts as first dc and ch 1, turn
Skip next sc,
Dc in next sc,
Ch 1,
Skip next sc,
Dc in last sc. (3 dc + 2 chs)

Row 3: ch 1, turn
Sc in each stitch across. (5 sc)
Fasten off.

Hatband
With black yarn ch 35,
Dc in fourth ch from hook and in each chain across.
Fasten off leaving 10” for sewing.
Thread hatband through buckle openings.
Wrap hatband around hat, sew ends together and fasten off.

I love the hat and I'm making it. But how do i do row 10.
Dc next 2 dc together, This part.

Dc next 2 dc together=
Work a dc in the next stitch without completing the very last step (leave the last two loops on the hook), then dc in the next stitch without completing the last step. You should have three loops on the hook. Then yarn over and draw through all the loops.
